In 2013 as resident filmmaker at the Skopelos Foundation for the Arts on the Greek island of Skopelos, I produced several community video projects. Since then I have returned annually for the Skopelos International Film Festival for Youth.
The festival lasts eight days beginning with three days of educational classes taught by locals about regional practices and history based on the yearly theme. For the next five days students work with a professional filmmaker to create a short film. The students create the initial story idea, write the scenario, create the storyboard, learn basic camera techniques, direct, act and then they help to edit the film. The last evening the films are screened to an enthusiastic crowd of over 600 townspeople.
