REFASHION: FOR A POST CAPITALIST WORLD

ZORISTIRO SOCIAL PRACTICE PROJECT and CREATIVE REUSE FESTIVAL

Performance, Intervention and Workshops
Communitism, Athens, Greece 2018

No one wants business suits, not the refugees, homeless, artists or anti-consumerist who frequent the Zoristirio freeshop. So what to do with this excessive waste of capitalism? Create surplus value, of course. All the garments are fashioned from the basic components of a classic business suit: jacket, slacks, button down shirt and tie. For a world ready to be post business as usual, post waste, and post exploitation of people and resources, a new fashion for a no longer business as usual world.

Refashion: for a post capitalist world project was the outcome of a 5-month creative reuse project as artist in residence at Communitism in Athens, Greece. Initiated as a social practice project in the form of Zoristirio free shop distributing used clothing. The space became more than a shop it was a neighborhood place to gather, share, engage in creative practices, play music and games and forge community bonds leading to new collaborations. This creative reuse project initiated a 2-day festival to bring together local organizations advocating for sustainable urban designs, zero waste and the circular economy.
